A Good Day

Happy Monday Guys!

I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s the first official day of spring and it actually felt like it today. The weather was beautiful.

Today was a good day. It was my third (and final) time giving a guest lecture in this class I’ve been a TA for and it went really well. The class meets at 9:30 and students had just come off of their spring break. I fully expected their eyes to be glazed over, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they were actually intently listening to the lecture. I tell you it’s the little things. One even came up to me afterwards to say he really enjoyed the presentation and to ask me some more questions.

It made me realize how much I enjoy presenting and teaching. While I’m not interested in a faculty position (at this time) I know that I’d like to have a position that allows me to teach people in other ways (seminars, trainings, consulting work, speaking engagements, etc). Moments like these are so important because they remind me of what I’m working toward. There’s a greater purpose to all of it, and that can so easily be overlooked in the day to day grind.

After that it was back to business as usual. I met up with my friend to keep working on my dissertation.

Ahh, it’s being so needy right now.

I’m just trying to stay focused and remind myself of how close I am to finishing.
