Grad School

Beyond the Dissertation

March 13, 2017

Happy Monday Guys!

It snowed this weekend. What?! The time for snow was back in January/February. Not mid-March when we’re right on the heels of spring. This week is a check in. I’ve been working on my dissertation for pretty much every waking hour of the day (which Daylight Savings so inconsiderately stole one of). Things have been crazy busy but I’m making good progress on my dissertation. And thankfully so too, because my defense date is fast approaching. I can’t believe how quickly everything is happening.

To occasionally switch up my scenery (and try out new restaurants), I’d been going to a different cafe once a week to do some work.

Not Winter, Not Spring

Happy Monday Guys!

How was your weekend?

I spent most of mine working in this really cool (and pretty) library on NC State’s campus (check out my insta for pics). Environment makes all of the difference when you’re studying/working. I’m looking forward to going back this weekend (yes, I’m aware that makes me a dork – I own it!)

2017: First Fitness Check In

February 27, 2017

Happy Monday Guys!

How was your weekend?

I went to Coldstone again. This time I got the Banana Caramel Crunch. It was delicious. Considering it’s only a mile away from me I could see this potentially becoming a problem ritual.

In more exciting news, I’m so close to finishing coding for my dissertation. Before I began coding I created a schedule to determine how much I would need to get through each day in order to be done by a certain date. I’ve stuck to that schedule so I’ll be done coding as of this Friday. FriYAY for real! After that comes the reliability check, then data cleaning, data analysis, and write up. March is going to be very intense. Pray for me.

This week I wanted to share the progress I’m making on my fitness goals. Last month I shared my fitness goals for 2017, and I’m pleased to report that I’ve already made serious progress on some of them. Particularly, I’ve taken a few workout classes and made use of my apartment’s gym.

Learn to Say “No” in Grad School: Setting Boundaries with Your Time

February 20, 2017

Happy Monday Guys!

How was your weekend?

Mine wasn’t too shabby. The weather was beautiful so I treated myself to a ‘Love It’ sized cup of Coldstone’s ‘That’s How I Roll’ while sitting outside and working on my dissertation. I hadn’t been to one since college and I forgot how much I love their ice cream.  I was able to get my sweet tooth satisfied (if only temporarily, because it’s never truly satisfied) and get some work done. Win, win.

Now onto today’s post. I’m excited to get into this one because it’s such an important topic for anyone who’s a) currently in grad school, b) getting ready to start grad school, or c) seriously considering grad school.

Today I’m talking about how to set boundaries with your time as a grad student. Oh yeah, I can already hear the sighs.

Valentine’s Day Outfit: Ralph Lauren Blazer & Bag

February 13, 2017

Hi Guys! Happy Monday:)

This weekend was a good one for me despite feeling like I may have been coming down with something on Saturday. Fortunately, when I woke up on Sunday the sun was shining, my throat felt less funny, and my body felt less achy (although I think the aches may have been due to Friday’s workout lol). I pushed through it though and finished pulling all of the research articles I’m going to need to carry out my dissertation research (we’re talking 400+) so I am stoked. I have a meeting with my advisor tomorrow so I wanted to make sure I had a solid progress update to give him.

You know what else is also tomorrow?

Yep, Valentine’s Day. Since I shared a dessert recipe last week, I thought it’d be nice to share some style inspo this week using classic pieces that you likely already have in your closet.

Heart Healthy Valentine’s Day Treats: Blueberry Bliss Bites

February 6, 2017

What’s up Guys!

Happy Monday:) Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Any special plans? My day will be packed with research meetings and a workshop, so I thought it would be nice to have something simple, sweet, and healthy to snack on. Enter these Blueberry Bliss Bites made with heart healthy ingredients. The ingredient list is so short for this one that you probably don’t even need to write it down. And dollars to donuts if you like to bake, you probably already have a few of these ingredients on hand.

Speaking of baking, these bites require no baking and no chilling. Once you’ve finished pulsing the ingredients and rolling them into balls you can sit down and snack away.  The bonus for me is that after I eat these on Tuesday, I won’t feel so guilty about buying heavily discounted Valentines Day candy on Wednesday.

Happy Monday Guys!

I’m really excited about this week’s post because I’m sharing one of the best meals I’ve made in a long time. Incredibly delicious – check, satisfying – check, and healthy – check. You get your lean protein, your whole grains, and your veggies.

Mom would be so proud. Bonus: It’s perfect for meal prep, which means you’ll be eating good for the whole week. I’ll give you a second to grab a notepad/ipad because I know you’re going to want to make this one.

Okay, you ready? Let’s hit it.
