June 27, 2016

4th of July is but a short week away and right about now you may be wondering what to wear to those BBQs, pool parties, or firework displays.

Well, I’m here to provide you with a little independence day style inspo. If you’re looking for an outfit that offers a chic, but playful, interpretation of 4th of July fashion, then this outfit is you. It’d be great for a backyard summer BBQ.

Maxxin and (not) Relaxin’…

June 26, 2016

Hey Guys. It has been quite a week!

So I’m in the thick of studying for my comprehensive exams in mid August and then the unthinkable happens…

After close to six years, my Macbook decided to stop ridin’ with me. When I opened it Thursday night, I saw a flashing folder with a question mark. After a quick Google search and some failed attempts to trouble shoot on my own, I scheduled an appointment at the Genius Bar for the next day. After telling me my computer was considered “vintage,” so they couldn’t repair it, they let me know it was likely a hard drive issue. They then gave me the name of an authorized retailer where I could take it to get fixed.

I called the retailer for an estimate and they told me that they would have to run a diagnostic test on it first (which costs $55 and would take 2 business days) before they could give me an estimate. If I wanted it expedited to 4 hours that would be an additional $75 (go figure). Assuming they would charge the same amount as Apple, when you add the diagnostic test with the hard drive replacement, and a new battery (which I’ve known I needed for several months now), the bill just keeps getting higher.

At this point it doesn’t make sense to put 300+ dollars into a “vintage” laptop, especially when new issues seem to be surfacing every few months. It’s time to get a new one, and although my wallet is silently weeping, I cannot complain. Six years is a long time in the computer world. It got me through my senior year of college, a master’s program, a fellowship, and two-thirds of the way through my PhD. I was hoping we could make it all the way to the finish line, but I respect the hustle. Let’s have a moment of silence, shall we.

Speaking of super expensive purchases, this dress set me back a whopping 7 dollars (plus tax). Gotta love Ross. I don’t go often, but a couple of weeks ago my sister and I went to one and I found some really cute and (incredibly cheap) stuff, including this dress. It’s light enough and cute enough to go out and run errands in, while being comfy enough to sleep in (which I have).

In the midst of all the craziness, I ended the week with a smile. I have a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and some truly amazing people in my life.

Bonus: I also won a $10 Sheetz gift card at my apartment complex’s annual summer pool party yesterday:)

I hope you all have a wonderful week:)

P.S. Check back later in the week for some food and fashion inspo for all those 4th of July BBQ and pool parties!

Savannah Style: Day 2

May 20, 2016

Here’s a look at what I wore for day 2 of sightseeing around Savannah.

Olde Harbour InnThe Olde Harbour InnThe Olde Harbour InnThe Olde Harbour InnThe Olde Harbour Inn

Funny story about these last few pics. We were walking past this gated building and my sister mentioned that it would be a nice backdrop for some pictures. Totally. Only one problem – it’s gated. Feeling adventurous, I’m like what the heck, I’ll hop the gate. I manage to wedge my foot into one of the holes and get over. Great. We get some cool shots and the mini photoshoot is a wrap.

Now it’s time to hop back over the gate. As I plant my feet into one of the holes, just as I had done before, the gate quickly parts open and I almost bust my behind on the cobblestone.

There was a brief pause to make sure nothing other than my pride was bruised, and then my sisters and I burst into laughter. It never occurred to me to check to see if the gate would open. It was like a scene straight out of a movie (think Bridesmaids when she climbs the fence and as she’s straddling it the gate slowly starts to open). Life lesson – sometimes life is simple.

Anyway, I loved this look. It felt nice and breezy as we walked around, but still put together. Adult onesies for the win!

Savannah Style: Day 1

May 19, 2016

I thought about combining the two outfits into one post, but I loved these looks so much that I wanted to give each one its time to shine. Both outfits came from Target and were under $30 a piece. #Targetforthewin:)

The Season That Never Was…

April 30, 2016

Classes officially ended for me this past week. I may or may not have thrown up my hands, and let out a shriek of joy this past Tuesday at 6:15pm. How quickly two years go by?! I think it’ll really sink in once fall semester starts and I have no classes to go to. I’m anxious about this “dissertating” process, especially since people say it can be quite isolating, but I’m also really excited. I get to be fully immersed in my research.

As I was going through some files on my computer, I came across some pics that must have been taken in colder weather, as evidenced by my hat and coat, but I can’t really remember. Was it ever really that cold?

You already know I felt completely gipped on a true winter season this year. And people doubt that climate change is real. I thought I’d share the pics as a way to briefly reminisce on the season that never was. With temperatures already hovering around the 90s in what’s supposed to be spring, it’ll be a long time before I’ll be wearing anything like this again.

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Fuchsia & Floral

Happy Friday Guys!
Fridays are so awesome. I don’t know about you but any stresses I have become a little less daunting when I get two extra days to deal with avoid them. I wanted to share an outfit with you that I wore a couple weeks ago for a reception at my school.

Would it surprise you to know that the top and the skirt cost me about $13 (combined that is). The top, which is 100% silk, was another thrifted find and I got it for $6.50. The skirt was on extra clearance at Target and was about $6.50 as well. Here’s to putting a chic look together without having to go broke in the process!

Thrill of the Thrift

April 8, 2016

Few things compare to the thrill of a good thrift find. Insert this 97% wool red Ralph Lauren Blazer with ornate gold buttons that I found at a thrift shop a couple years back. I paid a whopping, wait for it, $10. Crazyyy! Once I saw the price I snatched it up immediately before I could blink and it was gone.

Here’s where the story gets a little sad. This beauty was sitting in my closet for over a year because I couldn’t get my butt to a tailor. I finally said enough was enough and took it in October of last year.

After a few tries (I meant it when I said “snug”), it was perfect. I’m in love. This will be in my closet for a long time (read: forever).

What’s your best thrifted find?? Tell me in the comments below!
