The Season That Never Was…

April 30, 2016

Classes officially ended for me this past week. I may or may not have thrown up my hands, and let out a shriek of joy this past Tuesday at 6:15pm. How quickly two years go by?! I think it’ll really sink in once fall semester starts and I have no classes to go to. I’m anxious about this “dissertating” process, especially since people say it can be quite isolating, but I’m also really excited. I get to be fully immersed in my research.

As I was going through some files on my computer, I came across some pics that must have been taken in colder weather, as evidenced by my hat and coat, but I can’t really remember. Was it ever really that cold?

You already know I felt completely gipped on a true winter season this year. And people doubt that climate change is real. I thought I’d share the pics as a way to briefly reminisce on the season that never was. With temperatures already hovering around the 90s in what’s supposed to be spring, it’ll be a long time before I’ll be wearing anything like this again.

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Aztec Vibes

February 17, 2016

Every now and again I stumble across pieces that become wardrobe staples. This waterfall cardigan definitely falls into this category. I purchased it from Asos a few years ago and have gotten so much wear out of it. It’s great for lounging around the house in the winter or throwing it on top of simple outfits (like the one pictured below) to liven them up. At this point, the cost per wear is so low that it has paid for itself over and over and over again. I just wish there were a formula to follow for finding these items. Sometimes you buy something and you know that it’s going to be a go to piece, like my chambray denim top from Topshop. Other times you buy something on a whim and it turns out to be more versatile than you ever imagined. I love when that happens.

I’d actually describe this as more of a coatigan than a cardigan. You get both form and function. It’s comfortable and warm but also quite stylish. It makes for a great airport outfit in the winter months. We all want to travel in style but don’t want to sacrifice comfort in the process. This piece lets you do both. And the great thing is you can find items similar to this at Asos, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Zara…you name it.

Pink Peacock

January 28, 2016

I LOVE this faux fur vest that I picked up from Target last year. I mean it’s pink! I’ve never been a pink kind of girl, but I’m starting to appreciate it much more as I get older. There’s something so feminine about it. Especially in softer, more muted shades. Every girl needs a vest like this in her closet. Besides being the ultimate statement piece, it’s an instant mood booster. Seriously, try being upset when you feel like a pink peacock. It’s damn near impossible:)

One Down and Miles to Go Before I Sleep

January 16, 2016

I survived my last first week of classes! It feels like a big accomplishment. The first week back after a long break is always a little rough for me. I have to get used to having a strict routine again. My calendar has already filled up with assignment deadlines, research meetings, TA duties, and writing sessions.

As overwhelming as this can be, it’s also a bit refreshing. A new semester brings new subjects, new research ideas, new people, and new experiences. There’s this anxious, frenzied energy in the air. People scurry around campus trying to find classes in buildings they’ve never been to before (me on Tuesday). They crack a smile as they run into a friend that they haven’t seen since before break, and try to decide whether they’re going to stay in that stats class that meets on Monday morning at 8. It’s kind of electric.

Fall Fashion Fall Fashion

One thing I’m sure of is this semester will not lack in excitement. It’s only been a few days and I’m already involved in a project to help communicate success stories about meeting healthy food guidelines in federal worksites (right up my alley:).Fall Fashion Fall Fashion

Besides the excitement brought on by this new semester, there is definitely some anxiety. By May I’ll have to make some big decisions (e.g. settle on my dissertation topic, form my committee, and begin seriously thinking about post-graduation career plans). So let’s just say I’m not in a rush for the semester to end. This weekend I plan to take it easy by doing some light reading and heavy resting. Technically, the honeymoon is already over. My professors have wasted no time in assigning plenty of readings and assignments. I’m going to extend it for a few more days though because once Tuesday comes, it’s a race to the finish.

Work Wear Inspiration

April 24, 2014
Hi Guys! Today I’m bringing you some more of my favorite work looks. I’m hoping to show you that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get quality work pieces. My work wear items came from all over (thrift stores, TJ Maxx, Target, The Limited, etc) and I got very good deals on them. The key is to wait for sales and add pieces gradually so way your wallet isn’t taking a big hit all at once.
My “Casual Friday” look. Both the sweater and the pants came from Forever 21.

Hope you’re having a great week so far!
